art on the london skyline

There's an Antony Gormley exhibition going on at the Hayward Gallery in London until August. As part of the exhibition, a series of bronze sculptures of the artist's body have been placed on top of various buildings in London, (event horizon), mainly around the South Bank. Here's one I spied out my window at work.

there's a similar gormley body sculpture in the yorkshire sculpture park on top of a tree trunk about 5 or 6 metres up there. amidst the trees of the park land, near the sheep and the river. it is so strange seeing another in such a different place. like when i saw igor mitoraj's large face sculpture in front of the british museum after seeing it amidst the foliage of the same ysp! these changes in surroundings, especially when unexpected, always take me by surprise, and make me see the work in a totally different way. incredible how much location has to do with the effect and impression of a work of art!
